The lack of exceptions is a deal-breaker for me. I hated handling them in-band with C.
The iframe with scrolling Flash widget is cooler, but Ning rejected it as being over 100000 characters long.
Your concerns are reasonable, even if you're not working for equity. Your paycheck depends on the start-up's ability to succeed, or to get funding at least. But don't take it personally. Just forget about the stupid scheme.
