Requesting a web designer who would be willing to video conference with an online class for an hour

Aloha,

Thank you for reading this post. I was hoping someone out there who does web design as a profession or has experience in web design would be willing to share a few general web design principles with my class.

Background Information
The class is an introductory computer science class at Leeward Community College. The course is a hands-on course in which students learn how to use a variety of applications they will encounter in the business world. One of their tasks is to develop a very basic website. We use GoogleSites and they are given about a week to complete the project (so it is a very basic site).

Expertise Needed
Even though GoogleSites is a simple tool with limited design capabilities, I think it is very important for students to gain an awareness of basic website design. Therefore, I'm seeking help from an expert to talk to the students for about an hour on what goes into good website design.

Format
Since this is an online course, the "talk" would be in the form of a webinar. I can setup the time when it is convenient for you. Evenings seem to work well with my students as many of them are working adults. We use Adobe Connect as our conferencing software and I can host the session. I was thinking about an hour conference - 30 - 40 minute talk and 15-20 minute questions.

Ideally the week of October 12th would fit best with my semester schedule. However, the week of October 5th would be okay too.

Thank you in advanced,
Leanne

Hi Leanne.

Like Gus, I'm interested in tossing my hat into the ring-- all be it late. My little boutique agency of one: www.niteowlgroup.com
I'm renovating the sample page but my resume and snapshot are available. kevin@niteowlgroup.com

I use Adobe's ConnectNow for remote client meetings to go over projects and discuss ideas. I can use Skype or Adobe Connect as well if necessary. My tools of choice are the Adobe Master Collection CS4. Industry standard design software. Try to move away from templates and limited design options. I use this website for inspiration www.designmeltdown.com There are others for specific purposes. We can discuss further.

I'm also an advocate of raising the bar here in Hawaii. Managing client expectation and scope of work, design possibilities with Flash and dynamic content, how to maintain brand how to sniff out a client who wants a freebee design or whatever the topic de jour.

I'm curious, KCC has CS3 installed on their lab computers for the New Media major. I would think Leeward could do the same and give students some experience with powerful design programs.

Anyway...enough cookies for now. Let me know if you wish to chat.
Kevin
