Yah I was thinking of maybe 12 gigs of RAM for the quad. I heard that each core uses 3gigs of RAM (3x4cores = 12gigs). What type of computer you use to edit? How long does it take to render to H264 or a DVD?

Ya, the mac pro with quad 2.66 is definitely super fast but where you will see increases in performance with video is by loading it up with tons of RAM

Hi, I was wondering any of you have a MAC PRO? I'm thinking of getting a MAC PRO, but not sure which one to get. Is the quad 2.66 fast enough? I hate to get it and have to wait for hours to render video.

Thanks, any info would be much appreciated!

Aloha GB. My background is in Visual Communications, design and animation. I've been producing media with my company since 1996, in Hawaii since 1999. I've produced everything from Television docs, segments, graphics packages, FX, etc. to corporate and education media. We are currently developing a media-rich education system to bring more entertainment into classroom lessons.

I've done about 150 productions over the last 14 years here in Hawaii. Won the Hawaii Filmmaker's Award in 1999 for my work on Ka'ililauokekoa. Won a bunch of other awards for various projects which has done boo for raising money. Done docs, educational, news, industrial, features, websites too, but my fave is animation. Teach when I can at the community college.

I've been working with HIFF (Hawaii Intl Film Festival) for several years now, and i've managed to use my tech/web knowledge to streamline a lot of data gathering processes.
