Anyone going to the SBIR/STTR event on Maui next week? I'm on island for a short bit and would like to meet fellow CocoaHeads on my soon-to-be-new home.

I'd be interested in attending such a meet-up as well.

Stuart,

What are the chances of a Cocoa meetup? :)

Just came across this Alan Kay quote in a Joe Armstrong presentation (on erlang, of course) at QCon... and it struck me that this is germane to the discussion that we had about Objective-C and its syntax... but as Alan Kay was pained to point out: look beyond the syntax to the key underlying feature of OOP - message passing:

"Folks --

Just a gentle reminder that I took some pains at the last OOPSLA to try to
remind everyone that Smalltalk is not only NOT its syntax or the class
library, it is not even about classes. I'm sorry that I long ago coined the
term "objects" for this topic because it gets many people to focus on the
lesser idea.

The big idea is "messaging"....
...
If you focus on just messaging -- and realize that a good metasystem can
late bind the various 2nd level architectures used in objects -- then much
of the language-, UI-, and OS based discussions on this thread are really
quite moot.

Aloha all. With Snow Leopard out now, if you are writing Cocoa apps and want to conditionally take advantage of Snow Leopard features, review Apple's latest info on cross-SDK development: http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/documentation/DeveloperTools/Conceptual/cross_development/Configuring/configuring.html
